Quotes have become buzz phrases people share to seem philosophical, deep, intelligent, and motivational. It’s all nonsense to curate a following and engagement online with no real intent behind it. When was the last time you read or heard a quote, and it changed your life forever? Never.
One of my favorite quotes people share is “If you knew better you will do better.” In theory sounds simple, the more knowledge one has the better results one can produce. However, it does not work like that. There is never a single component that can switch the mindset of an individual. The sheer act of knowing is not the equalizer to achieving what you want. I know this goes completely against the other famous phrase “Knowledge is power.” Then explain how the powerless have so much knowledge across the world in the palm of our hands.
I had to understand what a knowledge phase is. A stage in your journey of growth where a rapid accumulation of knowledge is intentionally being gathered with the plan to act later. However, often time that later never comes and the action does not start. Having experienced this in my own life, accumulated much knowledge about a topic only to not use it in practical actions to build. It can lead to more insecurities. Because if you are not where you desire to be and you don’t have the knowledge you can blame not knowing an excuse. Then once you get the knowledge and still do not produce the results you wish, the blame has to be pointed in a different direction, most times it is inward. On yourself.
I didn’t understand it at first in myself and others. I would spend so much time reading, studying, learning and had nothing to show for my intellect. Reflecting on it and watching other people experience the same I needed to know why this is the case. I concluded that it is a form of fear. Fear of failure, success, change, being better. I imagine you are wondering how can someone have the fear of success or being better. Because it all requires you to operate on a higher standard than you are used to. It may also require you to distance yourself from people who don’t serve your higher purpose.
This is where I believe a lot of current society is in right now. A phase of knowledge accumulation but too afraid to use it in action. How does one overcome their fears? I will let you know when I learn how.
One response to “If You Knew Better But Still Won’t Do Better.”
Learn to overcome the fear that is stopping you from taking massive action.
